If I Should Pass Away Tonight
If I should pass away tonight, my dear
Thou shalt sing no tragic songs for me
Afraid I'd never again come to hear
That voice of thine that touched my heart's decree
Must thou not waste even a single tear
Though I am not forcing thee to pretend
Bestow me some orchids, not frail nor sere
And tell me thou hast loved me till the end
My life burned softly, like a fleeting ember
If not for thee, I'd long since greeted death
Let rain mourn my loss as thou dost remember
For when sunlight comes, thou wilt, too, forget
