If I Live To Be 101
If I live to be 101
I still don't think that I will have seen
All the things that I've read about
Both nearby and across the seas.
If I live to be 101
I still don't feel that I will have done
Half of the things that I'd aspired to do
Both serious and in fun.
If I live to be 101
I think that I'll still have dreams
Dreams of all with whom that I have been
Dreams of all the things I've seen
Dreams of all things that I wish would come true
Dreams of future happier times to be.
If I live to be 101
I still don't think I'll have danced as much as I'd wanted
There will still be music playing in my head
I'll still be feeling like a debutante.
If I live to be 101
I still don't think that I will have taught my children
All the things that they'll need to know
They'll have to learn these things during their own lives
Learning from Life's challenges as they go.
If I live to be 101
I'll have watched my children grow old
I'll have seen them raise families of their own
I may have even seen their bodies grow cold.
If I live to be 101
I still won't have tired of growing all the plants I love
I'll still be dreaming of eternal Springs
When all the buds from the earth appear above
I'll be looking forward to heavenly Summers
And all the songs the birds will sing.
If I live to 101
I'll have seen technology change our lives
I'll have seen things that this planet has never had
I'll have seen infinite changes to all human's daily lives.
If I live to be 101
I still won't want to leave this life
I'll have loved every minute of it
Both in the good times and in the times with strife.
I won't want to leave this earth
To travel to the great beyond
I'll wish that I could keep on living here
And not be just a brief ripple
In the Universe's Eternal Golden Pond.
