If I Can'T Breathe, I Cannot Speak

If I can't breathe, I cannot speak
My brothers, come - Repeal my word!
Though some would kneel to keep me meek,
I gave my life, so you'd be heard
I doubt the script you hand me but
if I can't breathe, I cannot speak,
or stand outside the doors you shut
and shout until my voice is weak
Oppression, though a vile antique,
still calls to violence those who know
if I can't breathe, I cannot speak,
so, silence is the status quo
Crusaded by the varied crowd
and buried as the protests peak,
I'm vindicated thunder loud!
"If I can't breathe, I cannot speak"

In memory of George Floyd and countless
others who have suffered needlessly at the
hands of those sworn to protect them
