I wonder

Inspired by Silent One's Nothing shines endlessly.

" yet, I wonder if there can be love without poetry"
    - Silent One

  9 October 2024

Beneath the shadow of each petal
of bougainvilleas and azaleas
that adorn grandma's porch
I trace my loneliness
into the gossamer of light
that bathes my shaded eyes
yet, the shadow fades quickly
before my hands could shape
the paradigm I longed to paint
in the unfinished canvas
hiding under the old porch.

The morning sun warms the paint
as I dip my thirsty brush
into the palette of endless quests
I stop into nothingness~

Then, I begin to dance
like a deaf ballerina
moving my feet and hands
into the rhythm of the passing clouds
until the sky dissolves in darkness.

I stop and wonder ~
if everything we see are greyscales
of negative photography
how could I paint you
sans chiaroscuro?

Incredibly touching JCB. Have we crossed paths before? The garden, the painting, the dance of joy - good stuff in combination

Your poem beautifully captures the melancholic interplay between light and shadow, using the speaker's solitary reflection to explore the nature of creation and existence. The opening image of bougainvilleas and azaleas adorning a grandmother's porch sets a scene filled with nostalgic warmth, yet the speaker quickly shifts to a feeling of isolation, tracing their loneliness through the gossamer light. The act of "tracing loneliness" into the light suggests an attempt to make sense of this emotion, yet the shadows fade too quickly for the speaker to fully grasp or shape it.

Thank you SO for your profound feedback. You put another dimension on my poem and teach me how can I organize my thoughts in the making to make a more vivid, solid and structured flow of imagery. I might recreate the forst stanza into another poem. You are an inspiration SO. Warm wishes.

Jez, you appear once in a while to mesmerize all with your beautiful poetry. I can feel how close you have been to your grandma. In many of your poems, your reminiscences of her appear. I am sure she was a lady of many parts. The garden she maintained must have been really beautiful. "Then, I begin to dance like a deaf ballerina moving my feet and hands into the rhythm of the passing clouds. " Can feel your body levitating in the beauty of the surroundings!
