I Wish I Could Cry

I wish I could cry But tears will not fall In situations where they would apply Behind pride they would stall I stood before my father at his wake And my soul it forever changed Still wetness on my cheek it did not make No time for tears in a life so rearranged I watched life come into this world A child that bore my name Emotions around my head swirled But my face by tears would not be shamed I’ve seen love end in a final embrace And deprived my heart of that need Not longer feeling it would be a disgrace Still my eyes would not bleed Crying I do not see as an unmanly reaction When pushed beyond emotional limits Rather causing you to lose traction From one into two your soul splits One day I may allow a tear to pass And more too may flow Breathing a final Alas Before letting it all go For now, I will keep the pain inside Wrecking the soul it protects Until a stronger peace can reside And I learn to show what my heart reflects
