I Will Tell You a Story

 
"Mommy, I want to stay with you and daddy forever."

I recall growing up in an old house,
we did not have much money but had love;
and we had a cat to control each mouse,
sad, when Marmalade cat went up above.

I loved sitting on the back steps to talk,
with my mommy, and we would laugh and hug;
and later we would go for a long walk,
mommy called me her little kissing bug.

I wanted things to stay the same always,
but, of course things don't and life for me changed;
and it became a struggle and a maze,
my way, my destiny was rearranged.

My sister went to heaven one cold day,
a great shadow fell on me- it changed me;
I would open the big church doors to pray,
spent time with grandma drinking her weak tea.

Mom was too sad to help but Grandma did,
she taught me to write my pain-  she said write;
I wrote poems and I was just a kid,
now, my words like a flock of birds take flight.
