I Will Not Budge
As I listen to the stories my grandmother told
The tears I cry are heavy to hold
I wish I could tell my grandmother things have changed
But unfortunately a lot of things are still the same
Only if people didn’t judge you by the color of your skin
Then it would be possible for all races to win
Sometimes it’s like the world gets worse by the day
It seems if people are constantly going astray
The ones who are supposed to protect and serve, treat us like prey
We continue to get gunned down day by day
Our community continues to split
With most blacks ready to call it quits
“No justice No peace”
That’s what is yelled in the streets
If only black, white all races could unite
There wouldn’t be much to fight
Am I pretty ? Am I smart ?
My brown skin should not determine my heart
It is not fair to be labeled and judged
On the matter of racism, and unequal opportunities
I will not budge
Inspired by Angel Davis quote “In a racist society, it is not enough to be non-racist. We must be anti-racist “
