I Will Never Be a Judge of Poetry
Its a tough job being a judge of poetry
I've never done it
But I can feel it
I can tell it
I can smell it
And i applaud those who do it
First all you never know what's coming your way
You don't know whether it's a language of science, math or just YOUR "regular" language
You never know what inspired the love or the hate in the story because the metaphorical language may all be confusing
Secondly you are dealing with very sensitive individuals, the poets
These are people who have put their hearts in those words
These are people who highly view every of their work and they hold on to it
Someone may have created their masterpiece in a flash, someone else may have spend several days or weeks thinking about it, someone else may have stayed up late and penned their poem in middle of the night alone when almost everything else was asleep
And when you get to judge, you the poet, the sensitive one has to keenly view every word and its shape
You try not to discourage, you try not to hurt, you try to please if possible. ...
Let me not say "I will never" because I never know
Destiny may decide otherwise
I may end up in that seat..
