I Will Care For You

I will care for you
like a child
like that shy little girl
in glossy sepia tone
alone with her thoughts
and fears
years ago
below surface layers

i will cherish you
with words of purity
seldom heard
i love you's without abuse
proclaimed without expectation
shown in truth

i will hold you
through all your hurts
giving tender affection
to tears
shared without shame
they will dissipate
as love perpetuates

i will keep you
though uneasiness
without a simple way out
we adhere
in the same skin covering
aged with depth
as a rippling reflection

i will defend you 
from memory's assaults
mending faults with forgiveness

i will see you
anew
as a child
longing for adoption
worthy of love

i will make you mine
with acceptance
of each weakness
and love you into strength like 
they wouldn't

i will brave a smile
that could have been a child's
