I Was the Sun, You the Vanishing Frost

I Was The Sun, You The Vanishing Frost

I will listen to you but will you talk
of sorrow's night, you took that leaving walk
sun-burnt memories all that remains
and tragedy of Love's saddest bloodstains.

I can beg but I know the cause is lost!
I was the Sun, you the vanishing Frost!

I shall pray, your life was later set straight
gone the jealousy that gave you your hate
now ash born, book of lies you believed
healed now, heart's wounds once so aggrieved!

I can beg but I know the cause is lost!
I was the Sun, you the vanishing frost!

I will send, Forgiveness and Love your way
ask the same as I bow my head to pray
your release from the demons in your mind
begging you again, please reply in kind!

I can beg but I know the cause is lost!
I was the Sun, you the vanishing frost!

I was the Sun, you the vanishing frost!
I was the Sun, you the vanishing frost!

Robert J. Lindley,

Rhyme, ( Where The Wildest Shining Flower No Longer Glows)

Note: Found this poem this afternoon. Written on the back of an empty envelope stuck in the middle of the second old poetry journal I am now editing.
I have decided not to edit a word of it, as it represents a heartbroken time in
my life forty years ago. I hope you may enjoy it as a poetic piece and see that
even in true abject despair, one can write to show others that life goes on
and life can and does later reward its blessings to those that survive its
horrendous and massively deep gut wrenching blows!
Posting now, least I forget this one and it never again sees light of day.

Loved this one, Robert, my f'riend. I have sad or tragic poetry from my past But when I see mine, I don't want to publish it. I am glad you do. Mine is so embarrassing,.there are a few I would love to find. Thank you. Panagiota

Thank you my great friend. I too have some very old ones that I threw away upon finding. Yet we poets must learn as is the case with all new writers. Not every poem hits a home run. I am blessed to have never stopped writing and studying poetry!

"I will send, Forgiveness and Love your way ask the same as I bow my head to pray" This is the only way to get over heartbreak Robert. Poignant pain is revealed in these lines. Beautifully penned my friend. : ) xxoo

Thank you my dear friend. Yet we survive to step into the future to learn and prosper -if we take such hard learned lessons to heart and make the necessary changes required.

The refrain sounds like a spell of broken love. It's terribly sad, but sometimes love has to break down for such a beautiful poem could come into being. Happy lovers don't write poems.

Thank you my friend. We re truly made a stronger force in life if we live through such depths of heartache, despair and feelings of lost hope. Surviving to carry on yields ever great light and understanding.

Robert, how wonderful you can find these old poems written and share them with us, my old poems, lots of them from my childhood, were lost to me forever, they were thrown in the garbage by mistake, and once in a desperation and depression I destroyed thousands of my poems, ripping them apart with tears and I cannot re-create them, I've tried, it is just not the same, maybe it was meant to be for now I have created thousands more, probably better ~

Thank you my great friend. I have been blessed to have manged to keep so many- yet many were once stolen from me and then burned by a vicious and very vindictive ex-wife...

Whenever I find a poem written years ago, I think about posting it and then almost invariably destroy it when I realize it's rubbish. Every piece that you dig out from your treasure trove is pure gold, my friend, this one being no exception. Great poem.

Thank you my great friend. I do not believe any of your poetry with its intelligent composition, finesse and great depth could have ever been bad. I was blessed with a great teacher--in that when young I must have read a few thousand poems over a very intensive study of poetry the first 3/4 years. And I kept on reading more and more for decades! Still doing so today..

My dear friend, your amazing talent was always apparent. This exceptional and emotional gem is timeless, Robert, heartbreak has never been more sadly beautiful. ‘I was the Sun, you the vanishing frost!’ A brilliant, emotive line with such vibrant imagery. A sparkling piece and a fav, my wonderful friend. Warmest wishes always.. ~Susan

Thank you my dear friend. A poet is not much of a writer if they can not so express deeply, truly, accurately and powerfully heartbreak when in the middle of that very lonely, crushing heartbreak.. Thanks for the kind comments and the fave..

I love it, Robert. Funny how something that was written forty years ago can be read like it was written today. Just goes to prove that you have always had such great talent. Hope all is well with you my dear friend... Love & peace, always...Charlie
