I Want To Go Back

My eyelids slide open as I transition out of the dream
I feel a smile move across my face as I see her laying beside me
I gather the covers and protect her in blankets wishing her rest
Even in sleep, I give her my best

A soft meow calls my attention as her cat stares thinking
I’m thinking too, I’m thinking of what she would do
I leave the bed quietly only the cat is making a sound
I lead the cat into the kitchen to see if there is any catnip around

Alone my love awakes and leaves the bed to see where I have gone
We were perfect in the apartment, but the days they drag on

I really like the form of this. It seems to have a feeling of the days not being what the narrator of the poem hoped or what they used to be.
