I Want a Re-Do

My dog gives me a sleep eyed look and a loud theatrical yawn.
She wants to go to bed.

I cannot give up the day yet.
I feel unaccomplished, unproductive, unworthy.
Others did not get today.
I did.

I should have been joyous, productive,
The day should have felt wonderful, and exciting.
The day and I were not any of these things.

This makes me chase after it mournfully,
Wanting a re-do.
I feel terrible about squandering it.

The dog lets out a loud sigh, showing she understands.
