I Wake Up In the Night

I wake up in the night
When my dreams play pretend
Not knowing if it’s now
Or the hell from way back then

Waking alone in that dungeon
As the clock chimed midnight
Left to wander the streets
With hopes to end my plight

I remember a pitch-dark basement
And searching for the stairs
With no light to guide me
Away from the demon stares

Tears I did not shed
While wandering through that dim
Fear my only companion
And the blame I felt within
