I Tried

I tried so hard, It seems i didn't get to far, Trying to get attention, All you do is push me away, You payed more attention to her, My childhood was a blur, I tried to make you love me, I tried to make you see me, All you did was look the other way, I cried every day, You would hit me, Yell and scream at me, I would cower away, Wondering when the nightmare would end, I would try and hide, So i wouldn't get in the way, You would come home in a drunken rage, I would protect her, As you struck down, Hitting hard, It felt like my back was on fire, But I cried silently, Crying out loud, Only made you hit more, The end was coming, I could feel it, Moving away from you, Was the best choice, That I have ever made.
