I Took a Ride
I took a ride,
To the sprawl.
To the house,
Where I was raised.
I couldn’t read the number on the gate
Its floorboards stained by rage and forgotten memories
The roof crumbling
With misremembered days.
I took a ride,
To the sprawl.
To a school,
Where we were forced to praise,.
Saved by death,
Beaten to exorcise our evil ways
I took a ride,
To the sprawl.
To a perfect town with false Ideas
And pretentious ways .
Bright shining light
In my dark soulless eyes
I hear a voice, filled with no concept of real life.
“Do you know what time it is?”
“Yes sir, It’s the first time I’ve felt like something is mine,
and I have something to give”
The lost defender of the sprawl
Said, “Well, where do you live kid?”
Blankly I reply
“Well sir, If you only knew
How much that answer is worth,
I’ve been searching every corner
Of the earth.”
I took a ride,
To the sprawl.
