I Thought I Knew

I thought I knew this one
This one with whom I share a life
A life envied by most standards of society
And of society I question these things
These things which are senseless
Senselessly arousing my anger
Anger taunts the soul
The soul that longs to understand
Understanding is the key to it all
But it all fades before my eyes
As my eyes are not yet ready to see
To seas of sadness I turn
And so I turn to this one
This one I thought I knew
And I knew the pain of another kind
Another kind of love far too close to touch
So to this touch I mask my disappointment
Disappointed in this one I thought I knew

Animals are doing well thanks for asking!...wish I could say the same for the book. It's hard when you self publish but have no money to promote it...I sent my two short stories from the book to Reader's Digest, but I never heard anything :( Hope you are well

I can feel pain and disappointment in your words, Chris. This could well be fiction, but having read your book, I would be tempted to guess otherwise! Warm regards // paul

Thanks for visiting Paul, and reading my book! :) I hope you enjoyed it...this is actually not related to my book...but also not fiction... have a great day Paul :) C.H.

we can feel the pain here. It sounds like you were betrayed. I know I have seen this style of poetry before where the last word of each line reflects at the beginning of the next line. Does that form have a name? Great job, Chris.

Hi Andrea :)...don't know if this style has a formal name...just something I tried when I wrote this...have a great day :) C.H.

Do we ever really know anyone? Emotions certainly distort our perception. We only know what others want us to know and usually only see what they want us to see. A very thought provoking write, Chris:)
