I SAW YOU THE FIRST TIME

From the moment you entered
The room grew heavy
Like a thick dark cloud
Promising rain
Our eyes met
I turned away
You sought audience
I gave you my tears
Certain, you had played me
Like Pa on his country fiddle
...but, I, I saw you the first time

You came through the door
Jesus, Himself, had guided
I declared my devotion
Though you made no motion
Toward the weird, gangly girl
I knew you were mine
Declaring the TRUTH
As though it mattered to others
I would have my family
With Red flags flying in the wind
...I.....saw.....the first time

You hired me on the day
We met, in your office of glory
I decided THIS is my pattern
I can trust in the operation
Yes, yes, He sends, I follow
The evidence is instant
No care or concern
Need be considered
For the path emerging
Before me, like lush grass
....I.....can.....see

We cooked together
In harmony and trust
Such a deep bond
Running through our hearts
Til the blood flowing
Began to break the plaque
And the push to breathe
Became evident in the moment
And you declared
Stop being YOU!!!
.....oh....I see

The diminishing happened
In stages where I needed
Trust to rise up
And declare Himself
As Savior, Keeper of the Keys
Guard, Deliverer, Comforter
Guide...but no...just alone
Because my essence has power
A power you longed to own
So you gutted me, but left the bones
But, you see, I saw YOU the first time
