I Saw Santa Claus

Snow had fallen, Christmas Eve morning,
On every rooftop and branch adorning

Burying my rural world in white,
And changing this place overnight

Early, I had wandered out the door,
Wanting to take in the forest more

I did gasp and my foot did pause,
When indeed, I saw Santa Claus

Standing alone there in the clearing,
Attending to his reindeer, so endearing

Quietly, I peered from behind a tree,
Hoping that he would not spot me

That day ... I did believe my eyes,
For the truth is hard to disguise

He was no man with a loose beard,
He was not the kind that children feared

Dressed up in a phony costume,
Wandering around a department store room

Golden jingle bells rang out their sound,
When his sleigh lifted off the ground

I knew that what I saw was real,
Because the young at heart can feel.

This was a darling poem. Yes, the mall santa is so dreadful. Of course when you are 5, you probably don't notice. Your poem brings back my own excitement at Christmas as a child as a once mommy of 2. What is real and imaginary? Which is more fun? Which is a dream? Questions many ask these days. To be a child with that sense of wonder again... I enjoyed this poem so much and I am delighted to have found it. Ho, ho, ho.

Hey Kelly.. Your poem beautifully captures the essence of a magical Christmas scene, transporting the reader to a world blanketed in snow and filled with the anticipation of the holiday. The vivid imagery of snow-covered rooftops and branches adorning creates a picturesque backdrop, setting the stage for the unexpected encounter with Santa Claus.
