I Remember
I remember her laugh like it was yesterday
It replaced the words we just couldn’t say.
As the merry-go-round turned peacefully slow
We tried to forget that soon she would go.
We watched the clouds drift slowly by
And tried to fight back the tears in our eye.
The early evening was quiet and calm
As the three of us together recited the twenty thirds psalm.
Our voices broke at the end of the verse
As an angel went by in a pure white hearse.
The old merry-go-round continued to turn
But it was only that moment we wanted to burn.
Lying on our backs starring at the sky
We were too afraid to ask God why.
As the evening shadows continued to grow
A gentle breeze began to blow.
That’s the last memory I have of our friend
Soon after God gave her wings to ascend.
She’s been an angel for many years,
She gives me the strength to face my fears.
She watches over me by night and by day
She is the warm light that guides my way.
As long as I remember her laughter and her smile
She’ll always be with me each step of every mile.
