A poem written from the heart

Cancer I loathe and detest you If I'm honest, I really HATE you I despise the way You keep popping up to irritate us like a smirking floating turd Which we’d love to flush away forever Attempts were made to eradicate you Skilled surgeons tried to cut you out But you were like a ‘cling on’ in the toilet of life And you wouldn’t be brushed aside Six years passed… Then more intervention was needed A radiation machine called ‘Holly’ Tried to zap you like a pesky mosquito But you had other ideas Four years passed More specialised SABR radiation was required We treated that week like a short break Going on day trips on non treatment days And enjoying life to the full Two years on Cancer has raised its ugly face once again The specialist laughed when hubby said “We will treat it like a week’s holiday” Having a positive attitude is a must! Cancer – you crept into our lives People see you as a silent killer But I will never be silent and de-turd And we will continue to celebrate How we’re beating the crap out of you!

Jan, we love walking on The Wirral..particularly West Kirkby. Ann wasn't well recently (hospital stay) but after our walk around the marina there..dunno..it just made her feel so much better..I love both your mindsets. Take care. Cheers - Gary

Thanks Gary, its the 4th time the blighter has come back but we never dwell on it, get on with life and will treat our time in the UK as a holiday with a short treatment on 3 days, last time we got out across the wirral and surrounding area - i already have our route planned! hugs Jan xx

Jan, it is horrible, especially when it's genetic. I'm glad you can remain positive for your husband and that you still are able to enjoy your lives. One thing though. I believe there are ways to fight it that modern medicine refuses to acknowledge. For some people these ways work really well. I'm hoping my cancer will not return, but if it does, I will turn to alternative medicine.

Bravo, Jan! Such a powerful and emotional poem but with enough of your humor in it to let those positive vibes shine through loud and clear! Wishing your husband (and you!) all the best as he fights to flush this disease away forever…

- I hate it too - Our cells are genetically programmed to die as we get older, Jan :) - (A centenarian who hasn't been diagnosed with some form of cancer has probably just not been examined well enough) - Cancer is a greedy monster - hugs

aww Charlie I am sorry to read your news - we don't pay cancer any attention, it has never dominated our lives and 13 years on we still continue to live life to the full! hugs Jan xx

Gotta love the way you use the word hate here Jan, yes cancer is anathema to us all, ever present and lurking insidiously in our cells, just waiting to explode, love also all the toilet humour puns, hopefully Maya’s quote will be proven wrong, and our hatred of the disease will eventually solve/cure it once and for all, cheers David

Thanks for dropping by David, you know me so well with the toilet humour! I deliberately used the word hate in the title ! It's sad to read someone calling a few of us "mean girls and haters" , thankfully others can see who we really are! hugs jan xx

Jan, this was great. I was surprised by the title of your poem as you are so kind and I can't imagine you hating anyone, but you left no doubt as you hate the dread disease cancer. Yes, I hate it too, it stole my eldest sister and my dad. You wrote this so well, as usual with your funny wit. Hugs and prayers that the cancer will be flushed away again for good. <3

BJ you have made my day! I deliberately made the title controversial, yet you still took the time to read and now understand why i used the word hate in the title! thank you so so much! hugs jan xx

Thanks Tania, You know me well lol! I couldn't resist a bit of toilet humour in what is actually a serious subject, its what has got me through and will continue to get me through these challenging times:-) hugs jan xx

Jan, even when you write about something as seriously hateful as cancer, your unique style of potty humor is unmistakeable. Bravo to you! There is no one you hate, nor do I but a disease is something we have no qualms about detesting.

Thanks Lin, writing poopy humour has got me through the most challenging years since I picked up my pen when my hubby was in cancer surgery - and it will never change. the title was deliberately chosen to see if people will read and comment or jump to the wrong conclusions about me:-) hugs jan xx

Beautiful Jan! There are moments of beauty everywhere and hidden strength and you capture it here. "De-turd" line inspired!

Thanks Dilly Da11y - very few people know what is going on or has been going on in my life since i picked up my pen when my hubby was in cancer surgery in 2013 - The title "I really Hate You" was deliberately chosen as some people are quick to jump to conclusions and to throw daggers when they really don't have a friggin clue. hugs jan xx
