I Read and I Hope
Beautiful, her hull,
Dark against the blinding snow.
The picture intrigues me.
This little ship from long ago.
I hold her story in my hands,
And I read.
My classmates read with me,
But they do not share my joy,
Curiosity, exuberance, excitement.
They do not understand the story,
Unraveling before us.
And I wish.
I am drawn to the ocean, the ice, the snow.
Adventures pop into my head.
I want to be there, in the cold.
Want to be known, in ages far from now.
But this is not the age of explorers, everything is already found.
And I cry.
I close the book,
Finished with her tale.
And I read,
And I wish
And I cry.
And now, i set off to the snow,
To destiny,
I know i will do something great,
They tell me so.
They, who have gone through so much.
They are wise, and strong.
A lonely girl,
A lonely world.
And I read,
And I wish,
And I cry.
And then...
I Hope.
