This poem spoke to me most profoundly. It should serve as a reminder to all of us that our freedoms have not come easy. That they need to be nourished daily and that we should both honor and respect them. That our Freedoms are an integral facet of our Democracy. It is most certainly time to keep our hands on the plow.

I read a poem this morn
A poem of profound meanings
From the heart of a man
Exposing his soul
The trials he’s endured
The tears he’s shed
His quest for equality
His search for opportunity
A message for all
These troubled times
I read a poem this morn
I read it again and again
It struck me cold
A dagger to my heart
Lessons to be learned
The dangers ahead
It spoke of Freedom
Democracy and Brotherhood
It spoke to me of America
Our beginning
Our resolve
Who we are
What we are
One America
I read a poem this morn
One all should read
To be read again
And again, and again
Lest we forget
