I Reach For You
under covers
i reach out
to find you
in the middle
of the night
so many times
i jolt and freeze
careful not to pull back
not wanting to alarm you
your body so feverish
i picture the cancer
bubbling under your skin
in hyperactive mode
hoping my hands
will soothe you
and extract the poison
that has a hold of you
