I Promised Not To Call

If my leaving suits you best then I'll go like all the rest and never question why we ever tried at all. But when you told me not to stay you were crying as you turned away so I'll honor your last wish... and promise not to call. You will not sleep well tonight as you'll wake up to the sight of my jacket gone and boots not in the hall. So you'll find yourself alone and when you go to check your phone, they'll be no message because...I promised not to call. I'm a miserable sight as I lie here tonight With a hand grasping the phone. But I'm losing the fight to do what is right As I try to leave you alone. You will tremble at the thought about the misery you have bought and the regret that leaves a person feeling small. So when you want to hold my hand you'll have to change your plans and come and find me because... I promised not to call. Should you cast away your doubt and strive to freely seek me out, you'll find this Cowboy at the ready standing tall. Until then my will is weak and I would give anything just to speak but I gave my word so... I promise not to call. I'm a miserable sight as I lie here tonight With a hand grasping the phone. But I'm losing the fight to do what is right As I try to leave you alone. The End *For those who might be interested. I will be posting my cartoon 'Bob's your Uncle' on my homepage. A new one will appear every second day.

Promised her not to call but it seems you both want to speak to one another, go on call her, you'll both be glad. A really beautiful write - think it's awesome! Hugs, Jennifer.

I want to cry for you, but I promised not to, and hope you don't keep your promise not to call.

I think a smart man would call because you never know. Have a great day.

Ah so true to stand by your word. I also think David that one has to look from the woman's point of view, after all she asked him not to call.

Women are indeed the greatest of all mysteries. As someone once said, 'There are two ways to understand a women and nether of them work.'

An honorable man for sure! It is refreshing to see this! So REFRESHING! It sounds like you possibly might have a bit of experience with this, David. If not, your imagination is stupendous!

It took me a while to learn when a girl wants to break up she doesn't always mean it. Have a great day my friend.

Promises, promises! Nice refrain, seriously. Very rhythmical...And now for a silly thought: 'Promise' inside out is 'miss Prom,' which is what just might happen if one 'promises not to call!' ~ Miss/Mr. Prom in Chicago (so gender-confused today...LOL).
