Purely Fictional poem written for The Double Swap Poetry Contest Sponsored by Joseph May 07/08/25

Close friends don't know the pain I feel My broken heart can never heal Your sudden death was long ago The pain I feel, close friends don't know I can't forget your dying breath Was long ago your sudden death To think of you makes me upset Your dying breath I can't forget Alone each night, I feel so blue Makes me upset to think of you To laugh or smile does not feel right I feel so blue alone each night I'm depressed, there's no denial Does not feel right to laugh or smile I can't be bothered getting dressed There's no denial, I'm depressed

Jan, the fact that you can write like this even though it's fiction does remind us that we get attached to people. Loss is tough to deal with for sure. Hope you are well and all is going as well as possible!!! Take care and smiles sent in your direction!!

This tugs at the heart, Jan. So very hard to lose someone you love. This isn't an easy form but you made it look effortless. Big hugs

Glad it is fictional. One of my good friends died a couple years ago. Glad I had a chance to sit with her and tell her I love(d) her. So important to not be afraid to tell your friends that. Hugs ~ Kim (love you ;)

A very sad poem, I can feel the pain through the words.... it's so painful to miss someone so much that it starts to hurt mentally and physically. I can feel it.

Thanks Anne, thankfully it is pure fiction for me but i know other people can relate to the loneliness when their partner dies, I much prefer to write humour (I'm known as Queen of Poop and have published 2 books of poopy/bawdy poems on Amazon)but i do step out of my comfort zone from time to time and Joseph's contests always inspire me:-) hugs Jan xx

A sad one for sure Jan, one that most people that endured a sudden death will fully relate to, the double swaps are so clever, unforced and feel natural, A great one for contest, cheers David
