I Loved It

I really loved it when
I had that bubbly youthful nature
I’d wake up enthusiastic
Hopeful for what each day would bring

Years of disillusionment pecked away
And eroded that bright fragile shell
It’s most unfortunate because
It was so unequivocally uplifting
That smile on my face seemed permanent
As much as that fresh sense of joy and hope
Exuding from my guileless heart

To this day I wonder
Why being so positive and happy
Got on people’s nerves
It seemed they needed to knock
Me down a peg or two
How very sad that they so managed
To defeat my childlike awe
Now it seems almost an impossible task
To undo their vile malevolent undoing
But I am determined to keep trying

It is hard not to learn the lessons that ill treatment affords. I think you have managed to hold on to enough of the childlike to be an optimistic, creative, but very wise person :)

So you grew up believing in the best of people but discovered they were (like Donad Trump) too petty to warrant your consideration. Forget about them and focus on all the young people who believe the best in you! Always remember, "When a man starts throwing dirt, you can be sure he is losing ground!" Aloha! Rico

LOL thanks for your delightful visit and comment, Timothy. I am too stubborn to be controlled... but I seem to have a flashing sign on my forehead that invites people to keep trying.

Dear Line...it's their loss believe me. You still have a great spirit and it shines in most of your poetry. This one is sad but I'm sure it's true. It's the price we pay for being "different" (in a good way). You know how people are. Just write those "meanies" off and hang with us, your "fans". Hugssss.....

I can really relate to this- as I'm sure many people can. It is so sad that people feel the need to inflict their unhappiness on others like that! Life itself has enough hardships and heartaches to sadden and disillusion us, without the added burden of snipey, miserable peers... I hope you do fully recover your childlike joy and wonder despite all these things!

Thanks for your lovely visit and comment, Rhona. It's a mystery why people have to knock each other down to feel better.

I have a huge lump in my throat reading your poem, Oh gosh Line that is so sad when people are determined to knock someone for being upbeat and happy it undermines their self confidence and steals their joy of life:-( hugs Jan xx
