I Look For You

EACH MORNING
I LOOK FOR YOU
IN THE RUFFLED PILE ON MY BED
AMONG MY PILLOWS,
SHEETS AND COVERS

YOUR LITTLE
HEAD
TOUSLED SHOULDER LENGTH HAIR
EYES, EARS, NOSE
BREASTS AND TOES

I GRAB FOR YOU
AND YOU ARE GONE
POSSIBLE
INTO ANOTHER ROOM
OR WERE YOU NEVER THERE

THE SMELL OF YOU
IS VERY FAINT
BUT OUT THERE
LIKE A WONDERFUL FAR OFF PLACE
IN A FAR OFF TIME

WERE YOU
A MEMORY IN MY RECENT PAST
A WONDERFUL DREAM OF A FAR OFF TIME
OR A HOPEFUL VISION TO LAST
FOREVER INTO OUR FUTURE

EACH MORNING
I SEARCH FOR YOU
IN THE CLOUD OVER MY BED
AMONG MY PILLOWS,
SHEETS AND COVERS
