I Learned So Much From You

I pass by your house almost everyday
And yet I try and stay out of your way
But today wasn’t the same
Instead out by the water to sit I came
Such a beautiful place to write
The sun against water sparkles bright
And though the memories remain
With those I no longer feel any pain
To look at your house my mom comes to mind
And being here I've come to find
Her memory comes back strong
Stronger than it has in so long
And as the sun beats down on me
I think back to what we used to be
I'm reminded of way back when
And all the places that we'd been
From Ohio down to the coast
You know the one I remember most
You gave me memories I'll never forget
For that I'll be forever in your debt
Though since then we've grown apart
But in my heart
You'll always hold a special place
Even if I never again see your face
I won't forget what we once had
After all it wasn’t all bad
We shared some really great times
And I've created some pretty good rhymes
I'm slowly becoming whole again
No longer as broken as I was back then
So as I leave this place today
I'll wear a smile as I walk away
Finally able to close the book
No longer feel the need for one last look
Even though my mom is gone
A part of her still lingers on
I hold it deep inside of me
And the past I must let be
Cuz being here won't bring her back
And we both know that’s a fact
But if there's one thing I can take from today
It's that this girl right here will be okay
In time I will find my way
And there's nothing anyone can do or say
Cuz I'm stronger than I ever knew
And so much of that I learned from you!!!!

Well done, Jennifer, every line here is purely from your heart. The greatest thing, yet sad thing about poetry is writing from experience. Enjoyed. LINDA
