I Know Not Horses

i know not horses, yet saddled with one, i ascertain courage and confidence. i learn to let go. i must trust his hooves — they clip clop like lady’s heels. we bounce together, follow the trail — i know not this stranger’s mane nor the length of his body, nor his tale. and he knows not mine nor cares. like a taxi driver he ferries me winsomely, charmingly. once one lusted to swallow the creek, far below. i aptly say, “oh no you don’t!” and restrain his reins. i know not horses, though one or two have carried me. 9/29/2018
