I Just Want To Be

Between a mother's tongue
And a father's stare
I am polarized where there is no introspection
My father was all I ever wanted to be
My mother laid out with her words
The map of my becoming
One was a ship with sail slanted against the wind
The other was a port behind the wind
And here I am marginalized from self
Writing this new history
With tastebuds for a diabetic diet
Though I have no such disease
And they are dead
And I still torn between them
Loving so much my past
And longing so much for my future
I just want to be
