I, Icon

an aspiration
forever immortalized
an anticipate
counteract hostility
neutralizes those that oppose

life too short not to
look into the horizon
to reach magnitudes
of importance to achieve
Icon in history books

As, you read, I hoped you would do well in the contest, but the sponsor's not been around since March, so I don't suppose the contest will ever be judged, do you?

Dear Eve, Your tanka made me think of Emily Dickinson as she felt she would never achieve fame, but still kept on writing and trying. Just look at the success she had posthumously. By all means, keep reaching for the stars and one day you may be one. Until then, please continue sharing your remarkable poetry. Best wishes in the contest! Love, carolyn

Thank you for commenting on my triolet "I, Icon". It was then interesting to come here and read your tanka on the same theme. My best wishes for it to do well. A 7 for it, Eve! Julia, :)

Hello Julia, the poem confused me, I'm a follower not a chief. I've been told that I could be a chief but I'm shy, if I know something about the subject like art than I can fly with it. Thank you so much for reading my piece and the 7. Blessings dear friend Eve

Hello Jan, I wasn't going to enter the contest because I didn't know what to write, I always see good in everybody and almost never any bad so it was hard for me to play the bad guy. If it doesn't make it it's okay. And it sounds like you're like me so good luck. Thank you for the compliment blessings dear friend Eve

Wow a unique take on the prompt title, an icon itself in poetry. Esp liked the connotations of the 2nd stanza. Thumbs up. Great to read frm u again.
