I Hope You Never Get Old

I hope you never get old! Can someone take me downtown? I can't drive my car anymore... I've got to get my prescriptions filled... I've got to make it to the drug store... I never thought I would ever see the day... When the body controls the mind... Maybe tomorrow I won't know my own name... I hope... that will be the day that I die Chorus I hope you never get old... It's such a shame how time wears you down... You can't go back to your childhood... Would you want to if you knew how? Remember the swing on the old oak tree... when you fell off and broke all your toes? And the teenage years brought you so many tears... but it's much better than being old. I hear old Joe's got his own room... he can finally sleep safe and sound... I bet he'll keep on sleepwalking at night... and in the morning hope he will be found... The day nurse smiles when she sees me... I think it's my day for a bath... I said "sometimes I wish that I was fifty years younger" She replied "you're always good for a laugh". Chorus repeat two times fade John Derek Hamilton December 11,2016

Nice lyrics John, it is so sad that the old are often forgotten and tucked away in "homes"

Yes, it is sad, it's just existing for some, until the day comes when they don't anymore. Thanks for the visit Joseph and the positive feedback. Hey,Joseph, I'd love to see your entry in my courage contest!

I wish the winter season of life was like Hallmark movies; wisdom and acceptance etched into serenity or the jokes about watching the weather station all day and eating dinner at 4pm. My Mom just turned 80 and I'm her #1; the changes don't stop and they aren't easy for her or me. An apt poem / song, John - and the lyrics are most touching. If a song, it would be a ball your head off one ... CayCay

Nice song John, There is a sadness that runs through this. It is so sad to see people fade away like this, to lose their independence, but become reliant on others just to do daily tasks that at one time seemed so easy.
