I Hope You Knew

Did you know that you were loved Though I told you everyday Did you know that you would leave upon that fateful day If only all those friends had said how much you meant to them Their words of love and joy sweet boy If only they had told you then... Times when you just wanted to switch off the thoughts inside your head Times when you awoke so low you could not get up out of bed I hope you saw how many friends took time to say goodbye The chapel it was packed so tight they pressed against the door And truly son they couldn’t get Not one more friend No room for more So rest assured my gentle giant so many came to say That you had meant so much to them So distraught were they As I wake up each day my son I just want you to know That you were loved I hope you knew So many friends came just for you Written 25th December 2019 Contest: Your best new poem Sponsor: Emile Pinet n/a Contest: Strand Special 11 Sponsor: Brian Strand 1st PLACE

Many thanks Brenda I was delighted to see my high position in Brian's contest, with my highly emotive poem, as sadly my dear son passed away just over two months ago, aged just 49, so my emotions are very raw and by expressing them in my poetry it has somehow been quite cathartic, With kindest thoughts Ann xx

Ah, so poetic and wonderful. It must have been a comfort for him, for I have a belief that we always stick around until two days after our funeral to see who cares.

Dear Heidi thank you for your beautiful comments. After feeling so empty inside my words and emotions are now pouring out of me. It is both emotional and cathartic at the same time. and I thank you for the kindness you are showing me dear friend. With kindes thoughts Ann xx

I've got the song 'the living years' going through my head Ann, I am sure there are many who have deep regrets at not telling their friends how much they mean to them and its too late when they are no longer here. when I visit my mother she tells me she loves me - its taken many years for her to actually appreciate all we do for her especially since my sister is no longer in touch with any of the family. Just mailed you xx:-) hugs Jan xx

Yes I know that song Jan, such poignant lyrics of words unspoken. It makes you realise that you need to tell family and friends how you feel. I am very much a hugger and Neil was the best hugger ever, bless him. I thank you dear friend for your love and support. With kindest thoughts Ann xx

I am sure he knew, its never easy, this pain... we never get over it, just learn to live with it... and we will always regret things we never said, things we never did..... so sorry for your loss...

That is so true SO, although we spoke daily and he always said 'love you' as I did, at the end of the phone call. I suppose when I saw so many friends it made me think - if only he knew. Thank you for your comforting words. With kindest thoughts Ann xx

They all came to honor him. Your poem honors him lovingly, Ann--no doubt he knew he was loved.

So many came Vijay, it was completely overwhelming, so much love for him, he would have been astonished and humbled. Your loving words continue to heal me Vijay. Kindest thoughts Ann xx
