I have lost thee

I just want to hold you in my arms, have you close to me. I can't look back knowing you'll be missing— a pain I cannot bear. I want to look ahead, and find you standing, waiting there... But there comes a time where a bird must fly, and you can't keep it in its cage or it will die. So I set you free, hoping you will come back to me. But deep down I know, I have lost thee.
