I Have All Kinds of Addictions
I have food addictions, hobby addictions, and friendship addictions.
They go in spurts and phases; no rhyme or reason, fed by an internal need.
They start up without warning and last until they are over.
I am a Gemini, so I blame them on my mercurial personality.
I will eat only ham sandwiches with pickle relish every day for six years.
Then not be able to look at bread, ham or pickle relish for eighteen more.
An exaggeration? I wish. I discovered a love for painting accidentally.
Within a month I was completing three canvases daily; and art show juried.
Friendship addictions are difficult to explain, but I will do my best.
I will find a friend whom I adore; once found I become a giant puppy.
Following them home, lying at their feet, licking their faces.
Exaggerating? No. They try to get rid of me sometimes; it never works.
The end of an addiction does not come until my heart says “it is done.”
When I get the “over” signal, I drop ham sandwiches, canvases and friends
Over waterfalls, into garbage bins. I blame this onto my astrological sign.
I am a Gemini; I am easily and quickly addicted to things.
I am addicted to poetry today but that could die tomorrow....
