I Had the Best Window
Listen to poem:
two tall windows at opposing ends
that let all that glorious sunshine in
four sisters each in our corner
up in our open second floor bedroom
the rising sun greeted me each morning
as my bed occupied the east corner
and out my window lived a tall birch tree
so close i could touch it
luscious wispy branches ever swaying
i grew up feeling it watching over me
just like an angel on duty
protecting me through the years
how i loved sitting at my window
setting my dreams afloat like hot air balloons
through the seasons my window was my haven
sitting there dreaming, crying, writing poetry
looking out at the sun, gazing at the moon
i laughed, i sang, i waited and longed
most of all i couldn’t wait to grow up
silly silly girl
