I Got Scars, Invisible Chains That Tightly Bind

I Got Scars, Invisible Chains That Tightly Bind

I got scars, invisible but O' so, so deep
Never say never, heart slashed enough to weep
There the darkness came ravaging a broken mind
I got scars, invisible chains that tightly bind
And an epic loss that can any man destroy
When a younger lad, just a poor O' Southern boy!

I got scars, invisible but O' so, so deep
Doorways bringing bad nightmares into my sleep
Those battles, those moaning cries can be heard each night
Tragedy, a shame, such a sad pitiful fight
There the darkness comes cutting up both heart and soul
And lord don’t ya know, it is such a wicked toll!

I got scars, invisible but O' so, so deep.
Never say never, heart slashed enough to weep!

Robert J. Lindley,
Sonnet ( Sad, dark and once so true )

Robert, The scars are supposed to be proof of a healing wound. But I love the comment from Lady Labyrinth; so profound. All these poet scars. -Richard

Dear friend, Robert. Been ill & haven’t seen you in awhile. This is an astounding poem with a mass of truth for many of us. I am so blasted away by your seeing scars as “doorways.” I have much thought of scars & even written about different types & places for doorways...but put the 2 together!!!

all poets are scarred...the words are the ointment we apply to our bruises, cuts and burns, we bloom, occasionally, the poems like flowers are picked or cut and placed between pages, by some, the fragrance at time of reading, re-ignites, becalms us, a portent of what was once and things to come. Poems are remembered and forgotten.

I agree with ML... That saying Turn your scars into stars.. Always runs through my brain. A powerfully, dark sonnet Pangie xx

I believe a lot of our suffering is karmic. Those scars make us stronger and more determined to obtain our goals. At least that has been my experience. I am glad to know your sadness is in the past. A very moving piece Robert. Blessings xxoo

Some scars can never heal, but scars can also make us stronger, wiser. Well penned sadness.

... and some wounds NEVER heal ... I think the scars are preferable over those open wounds that fester. Excellent write, my friend, though very heart-wrenching and sad. Favorite for sure.

No one gets out of this life without a few scars. That is part of the challenge. This is why we must test ourselves to ensure our scars are not in charge. Wonderful poem my friend.

or would could surmise. those that -- ""feel""-- deeper are able to be -""hurt"" -- far deeper. Unfortunately such in regards to romance certainly holds to be so very true.

Thank you my friend. Right you are, but some manage to receive far more than their --fair share. It is as if Fate and the world work together to punish those that dare oppose the world's usual ways- usual savagery, heartlessness, lusts and greed. Those not overly hit would say-it is just a matter of perspective--but in that comment lies a vast amount of ignorance.. One plus -is sometimes those hard lessons learned prove highly beneficial later in life. Trust me on that my friend, I know its truth.

Seeming ever truth could at least once, one time happen to every person both genders. Tragedy, a shame, such a sad pitiful fight There the darkness comes cutting up both heart and soul And lord don’t ya know, it is such a wicked toll! Humanity crudity to it self. It's a wonder we don't scare ourselves as well as those demons and dreams. James

Thank you my friend. Exactly so, we permit by our actions- our willful and massive desires to rule ALL that is around us! That inborn desire of the flesh is our weakness, our curse and our darkness, imho. Tis but -one way-- to conquer it.... Yet one must submit to do so... tho' the many refuse that submission my friend. God bless..

Thank you my friend. The sad part is that most often our own foolish and youthful deeds create the dark doorways! Yet reprieve exists in the knowledge that a simple call -for the light- vanquishes the dark shadows and the fear they always desire seek to inflict. That Light , that Authority, that divine Love, that all in the universe must bow to.. God bless.

Life experience, as age inflicts, does leave spoils, as strength builds in unison! good one, Robert!

Thank you my friend. Life is about growth, facing obstacles and continuation. Some people are blessed to have not faced as many obstacles or as severe obstacles in their lives. More power to them I say. As a poet it is part of my role to write the truth and about my life. And do so be it with failings, hiccups, warts and all. And declare this world often beats the hell out of us because ---we oppose it!!...Yet oppose it we must!
