I Forgive You

I have never felt more betrayed Than when you lied to me Never was I more dismayed Than when I cut you free. Love I sought, and not with guarantee I never wanted this disaster Then your flotsam and debris Stole precious days of laughter. No more happily ever after I do truly understand What is a complicated answer I know our woe you never really planned. I bid you a sad and firm adieu But love absolves. I forgive you.

Thank you Jan. It relates to an earlier poem I wrote, and sometimes you put your head up high and carry on with life. Kim's poem was a wonderful theme on forgiveness that sums it up,

Sometimes, forgiveness is just a start to a long long journey, I wish you all the best...

Thank you Dew, life can be complicated sometimes, and what I was trying to achieve was that forgiveness doesn't always have a happy ever after.

This is a strong and well written sonnet, Mark. I am no expert in modern sonnets, but I don't see slant rhyme in your poem. If this is for the contest, he may want that. It means the end rhyme words are not exactly the same. Example: ant/font or free/fray. Not all end words need to be this way, from what I gather.

Thank you Laura, I must admit I was unsure of what slant rhyme meant. I had intended it for the contest, but may have to reconsider, based on that.

Thank you Michael, hopefully I got the flow alright, I got dragged word wise down a slightly different path to what I intended.

A very well penned traditional sonnet, with emotions that wrap themselves around your words, evoking a sad feeling that pulls at the reader's heartstrings. Emile. #7

Emile you have such positive, encouraging pen that I truly appreciate your comments. I think you are right that this is a slightly modernised traditional sonnet.

I wish Craig had defined the syllable count and rhyme scheme because I found no clarity when I read his example. I may goggle Robert's advice below. Nonetheless, your poem is a beautiful sentiment and great expression for both heart pain and emotional forgiveness. It is a keeper ... CayCay

CayCay it's all part of the learning journey which the poetry wagon takes us along. Though some may disagree, to write a poem that N/A's is better than to not have written one at all.

Cheers Robert, after reading that (which is an awesome resource) I may have a modernised one that is still more leaning towards traditional.

I think this is a traditional sonnet, silent one is correct, modern one does not adheres to the abab structure. But nonetheless the sonnet was excellent and I loved the ending.

Your kind words tell me I achieved what I wanted, that forgiveness does sometimes come with sorrow. Thank you
