Notes About The Poem

Constance's Beautiful Terza Rima Contest ~ 4/6//26

I Feel Spring's Gentle Caress

“Spring drew on...and a greenness grew over those brown beds,
which, freshening daily, suggested the thought that Hope traversed
them at night and left each morning brighter traces of her steps.”
                                                      ~ Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre

I feel the caress of Spring's gentle breeze
wafting through meadows and verdant hills
and swaying branches of budding maple trees

Spring welcomes rain as each drop softly spills
dampening the cheeks of my upturned face
until the sun's warmth relieves me of my chills

It's the season that I so lovingly embrace
when flowers grow in vast, colorful profusion
lovelier in a garden than in a vase

Lavender scents the air with sweet infusion
To God and Nature, I bestow gratitude
for the beauty found in their collusion

Spring arrives offering hope renewed
and fresh beginnings are redolently imbued

What a brilliant follow on from Charlotte Brontë’s quote Lin, you capture the spring in a kind of 19th century style, when poets had only real life senses to go on, rather than something we see on TV, your opening stanza is exceptional and sets the pace for the gratitude shown later in the poem! Great one for contest, cheers David

Lin, this is just so real. It's a window to your thoughts and feelings of happiness. This makes it a pleasure to read. Genuine feeling is hard to put into words, but you do it in a way that seems to flow and reads easily. Hope spring is smiling on all of us!!

Feel free to peer into this window, but I have a pretty good idea that you already know many of my thoughts and feelings. Thanks so much, Duke.

If you were able to see yourself in the setting and smell the scent of lavender, I have accomplished what creating these lines was meant to do. Thank you ever so much for your kind thoughts, Ink. I know you sincerely mean them. ;-)

Lovely poem, Lin. Really feels like spring to me… alas… only yesterday I had cause to use the words, ‘I reckon we’ve seen the last of the frosts now’…. Apparently… I was wrong…BIG TIME… but I was snuggled up in bed so… not my problem!

I loved my garden of years ago but apartment living only allows indoor plants. I carefully care for those I now nurture. Thank you, Frederic.

Thank you, Tom. Although the weather here at the moment is more like fall than Spring. It’s been a roller coaster
