I Don't Understand It

He gives you 
yet another of many 
black eyes, 
but still
you've chosen to stay,
to weather the storm. 
How come?
Lord knows I've seen you 
cry many a river over him,
yet you ignore pleas
to flee, to be free
of his poisonous tentacles!
Please explain
the whys and wherefores;
I don't understand it!
What are you holding on to?
Are you waiting
for him to change
magically 
from cad to saint?
Why do you stay 
and take abuse?
I don't understand it!
We both know this isn't love
It's never too late
to vote with your feet!
Run, poor thing, run
Or at least walk
away... and never 
look back!
