I Didn't Know Beauty

I didn’t know beauty until I saw your face. My knees grew weak, my heart began to race. It felt like I was running in place, When I tried to talk to you, I was a disgrace. But your eyes were gentle, and your smile was kind. You possessed the patience to give me time. When my composure I would finally find, Through conversation, you made love to my mind. We discovered that we share common thoughts, Similar life lessons we had both been taught, We knew our chance meeting wasn’t for naught, By Cupid’s arrow I had been caught. When I popped the question you said, “I will” My heart, with love, did totally fill. We were blessed to bring children into this world, What was once a dream became amazingly real. Now we approach our Autumn years, Remembering the laughter and the tears, I am grateful I overcame the fears When first your beautiful face appears.
