Contests are for fools...but the fool is happy when they win...me included lol...it is a form of cheap happiness...a cheap thrill...although writing poetry of all kinds is a self-expression of one's heart thru the art form... next contest, please...love & cheap thrills...^WW^

You are right, WW. I guess I am a fool as well (lol) and it is a cheap thrill, that is somewhat rewarding. They may not be the outcome we all hope for, but after running a couple of contests myself, I found out that you can't please everyone all the time, but you can please some of the people some of the time. If that makes sense (lol) yes, next contest, please...Love & peace...and cheap thrills! Charlie

G'day Charles … contests are there for many poets, and sometimes they need a thick skin to take the comments, but really, poetry is the mind of soul being bared by all poets that in many ways, readers can relate to - I enjoyed your thoughts here Charles - Lindsay

It seems like many are getting discouraged. If there was a way to make things better, I certainly would. A contest should be fun, not cause issues with other poets. You are a winner Charles, because this is from the heart. Each poet is a winner indeed. ~ Brandy

Yes, it does, doesn't it. It is out of yours hands my dear. Contests should be fun, not like I said "a test" I write poetry to cheer others up and perhaps put a smile on their face...not for a win. Like I said to Lindsay, If I win, great! If I lose...It's only a contest and no hard feelings should be felt. You are also right, each poet is a winner! Hugs // Charlie

Nicely penned, Charles. I have discovered that I do not need contests, but they help make me travel outside myself for a bit.

Thank you, Caren! No we do not need contests. But they are fun and challenging so I do enjoy them. One should not feel discouraged if they do not place or win! It all in good fun and whether we win or lose, it's not a test, it's just the judges perception or someone's poem touched them or they related to it. We are all winners! hugs // Charlie
