I Could Not Let Go of the Pain

For a long time, I held bitterness in my heart,
A grudge that tore my soul apart,
I couldn't let go of the pain,
And anger was all that remained.

But then I saw the harm I caused,
And realized how my bitterness paused,
All the joy that could've been,
If I had let forgiveness win.

So I made a choice to forgive,
And let go of the hurt I lived,
It wasn't easy, but it was right,
To finally see the world in a new light.

And now my heart is light and free,
From the anger that used to control me,
I'm grateful for this change of heart,
And the peace it brings to every part.
