I Come To Give Thanks

I Come to Give Thanks

Mother, hear me singing songs of hope for you.
Thou, from whose youthful body new life spawned
Though fearing, knows not how trust forever lost, ripped two.

Birthing alone with fright, your baby dawned.
Naivety-gripping images burst through.
Dreams, terrifying the soul; where reason belonged.

Stings ringing, one young heart turned cobalt blue.
Each thought a flight inside the mind, until
My mother, with keen words did love me true.

Her nurturing hailed the Son of God; free will.
Guiding young lives on wings of motherhood.
Encouraging and helping, love fulfilled.

Oh mother, years have passed not understood.
I come, now to give thanks to you, as I should.
