I Caught Him High

I caught him high, but I was high
as we passed each other with mutual dread
he caught me high, but he was high

smoked some of his s--- and thought I would die
then he looked at me as if I were dead
I caught him high, but I was high

young foolish and willing to try
anything to pry the nightmares from my head
he caught me high, but he was high

when momma’ left I wasn’t sure why
the emptiness proved a tough skin to shed
I caught him high, but I was high

anger crept through the house like a poltergeist
dislodging dreams without a word being said
he caught me high, but he was high

our sullen minds closed at the exact same time
no questions answered only demons fed
I caught him high, but I was high
he caught me high, but he was high

I like how the cadence of this poem matches with the story it tells

Thanks for stopping by David. This poem was dipped in reality.

Disheartening and dark, yet brilliant poetry here. Some of this sounds like my past for some odd reason. Amazing and the repetition helps a lot. -JWE
