I Can'T Breathe

I can't breathe My ankles are shackled I can't feel my feet, My neck is manacled The weight of your knee upon my neck, Crushing my jugular, bursting veins Tears of blood running down my cheeks, As I pleaded for mercy, tapping out But it wasn't enough to quench your thirst The world is silent, racism pushing through Its walls, we have become claustrophobic Tearing through the roofs, windows and doors To undo this Injustice served by the uniform Sir D'Champ's Poetry

This is a massage to the world Time to speak out If the iron are to soft to break the chains Our collective voice would be hard and heard to loose the shackles

Riveting write! Through all of this tragedy and conversation on the deep, deep systemic racism I keep thinking about the Stanford prison experiment, and just how fallible we humans are. I am white and in Canada and even I fear the police. Truly powerful poem, thank you for sharing it here. Take care. ~Maureen
