I Cannot Chase Dreams

hypnopompic hues
     multifaceted jewels
          confetti luminaries
a gift from mother?
     i’m cosseted in
          its incalescence
               its wind chime colors
my mind’s fixed upon
     rubies, sapphires, emeralds
even if i fall
     into somnambulant sleep
         i cannot chase dreams
              chimerical blooms
cut gems of rain-and-moon-bows
     that unfurl as i awake

Love the vocabulary in this Choka, Kim. hypnopompic, incalescence (new word for me), somnambulant! I've had a life long curiosity and interest in dreams. I find them both pleasant and surreal. What really wows me about them is where in the brain do they reside and what triggers them as dreams? / Maurice

I was waking up and I saw jeweled confetti falling from the ceiling. I thought of my mom who died in April. I looked this up…they label it as a waking up hallucination. It lasted a second or two. I am not aware of any dream I might have been having. It was a quick afternoon nap. Crazy, huh? Thank you for you comment. I appreciate you, Maurice!

Yes, we can never chase a dream...sometimes my dreams are so soothing, sometimes they are a mishmash of so many things...Loved reading this Kim..."somnambulant sleep" reminded me of Macbeth...Hugs...~ Ani

Thank you, Valsa! Based on some experience. I was telling my husband and thought let me look this up. <3

Coincidence? -- or intended to appear on MLK Day?! Either way, Kim, your dream is a tad more psychedelic, let's say. Cheers, gw

Interesting take, Gershon. Coincidental. The first word is key. ~ Cheers, my wonderful friend!

Those dreams always seem to escape our grasp but we shouldn't give up. Tom
