I Am Your Dad

I held you in my arms
Waiting for the passing of the storm
I covered you in blankets at night
Making sure that you stayed warm

I walked you to the bus stop
Every morning before school
I taught you how to swim
In the neighborhood swimming pool

I sat in the passenger seat
When you had your drivers permit
At every dance recital
In the front row I would sit

All dressed in white
I walked you down the aisle
Diapering my grandson
I watched you with a smile

Standing above me
With tears building in your eyes
Holding my hand
The moment that I died

I am your Dad
And, I am so glad
