I Am Bored With Books

Books were interesting Books were short Books were fun to read along But now words have become hard to read So confusing like beads and seeds No monitor light To make them stand out bright No friends to say hello While reading a page from Longfellow If got stuck on a word unknown No automatic dictionary to let it be known No multiple windows to pass thru When mind wavers and need other brew Books once lead me to other lands Now with internet I have many hands I am bored with books, I really am For they aren’t ships that sail the seas Only dust collectors made of trees By-Tahera Mannan For Linda's 'i am Bored-----------' contest

I love your witty take on your new electronic gargantuan book-the internet. Tahera, I plead with you to reconsider the good things about holding a book-no distractions, the smell of leather and the softness of the cover...you can highlight, underline, hide them under your pillow. Ohhh, don't give up on books. What if electricity died and the internet crashed? Your long lost love...your books will be faithfully waiting for you to dust them off and rejoin them once again. smiles! Gwendolen

Very clever, Tahera. We are becoming a paperless society because of the Internet and most of our reading is done online. Although books don't bore me, I hate seeing forests disappear so this poem has a special meaning for me. Please let me know how your surgery went. Praying for you. Congratulations on your win, Love, Carolyn

This is a good one. I love the Internet, too. I have heard, however, that there is nothing more relaxing than cuddling beneath a warm blanket with a good book and warm beverage on a cool afternoon. (You can't take your computer to bed with you. lol) But then, again, the mind can't travel so quickly around the world as it can in cyberspace. I enjoyed your poem. (Have a super day.) Lovingly, Dane Ann

haha, you just put literature back centuries. But I sure know the problem of reading long boring books and poets like Longfellow without falling to sleep. I enjoyed this funny one.
