I Am Autistic

Finally found out why I felt so different for years Why I felt like I was always outside looking in Why my communication skills were never the best It only took 43 years of my life for someone to confirm this for me That Autistic is what I definitely am I don’t see it as a bad thing Just an explanation of why I was so different from everyone else It explains why I am not a leader but always the follower Which can get you in trouble just as well I’m not mad it took people this long to figure it out It’s not doctors fault they knew nothing about autism in 1987 when I was going through tests for dyslexia and learning disabilities I am autistic and I’m proud I support those like me and love to help them out I am autistic and I don’t care what other people think I am autistic so just deal with it

Wow! This is powerful! "I am autistic I'm proud" If we were all alike, there would only be one person in the whole wide world. You celebrate and honor your uniqueness as everyone should. Thanks for writing this poem!

Julie my brother son Brandon is autistic. He is so smart. Has a 4.0 average in college. His average in accounting is 107 he tutors many students in his class. His teacher told my brother that Brandon is the smartest student he has ever had in his class. Brandon is my nephew and I do not see anything wrong with him at all. You to me will always be Julie, I read a very intelligent writer here. God bless you Julie...

lol I know some pretty brilliant people who are autistic and they are awesome . I commend you, only the brave can stand up and say it through poetry like you just did. My brother had a learning disability in the 1960's you could only imagine, ? sending you love, and prayers and all that light ! xo

Nice and clear, Julie. Don't fret; it has taken me 90 years to realize I felt guilty for being born! I find autism interesting. It gives another way to experience the world. Elizabeth
